I regularly help Didier Ghez with his incredible book series. Having read every book, I can wholeheartedly recommend them all.

If I’m ever going to hear anybody admitting that they looked at Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Disneyland for key inspiration on a movie by the same studio again, I may go crazy.
It’s true that you could learn a lot from these sources, but certainly not as an inspiration for a new Disney movie.
Aren’t they aware that Europe is a real place and there are thousands of French paintings for a start?
Anyway, somehow I’m still looking forward to Rapunzel…
Daniel, thanks btw for your recent Jungle Book plug, it resulted in a welcome increase of traffic!

Oswald, precisely what I said on my twitter upon seeing this video. They worry about hand-drawn animation as a dying medium, and it’s no wonder with lazy directors like these admitting to just mustering their energy into traveling a few miles to be ‘inspired by’ the plastic castles and half-timber of ‘Fantasy Land.’
It’s like claiming you’re going to draw a great picture of the male figure, but all you have to work with is a gift shop plastic pencil sharpener model of Michelangelo’s David. The end drawing is going to feel stale and a pale xeroxed imitation of the first interpretation.
As if Disney animation wasn’t already inbred enough.

I’ll allow that because you’ve explained yourself enough and it’s partially true and funny. But I don’t want this to start any negative ranting on my blog. This is not Cartoon Brew.
