} | Build Your Own Camera Stand! |
This information is kind of redundant these days. No way would anyone spend the time, and money to put one of these things together. It’s just not necessary anymore. But that doesn’t stop me from geeking out over it. How cool is this? An actual step-by-step guide to building your own camera stand? OMG!
It has a supply list, it has pictures, it has schematics. Any time you get a chance to use the word “schematics”, take it!
These are all from The World of Animation by Raul da Silva (Out of Print), which is like a late seventies version of The Alchemy of Animation. It’s a fantastic read for animation geeks though. You can download high resolution scans below or a .Pdf version here.

Redundant unless one is doing -under the camera work using paint on glass , or clay on glass (Joan Gratz style) , or any number of other types of cut-out, stop-motion or object animation that needs to be flat.
I had this book when I was a teenager and I dreamed of making this camera stand. But I never had the space where I lived to be able to make it , even if I did manage to get the necessary tools and other stuff together.
But it is an ingenious design.
I saw a clip on YouTube of someone who actually made it :

(and it’s cool how he animated the table in the clip to show it from all angles)

For 2d animation would this be the best way to import the images to a computer? I noticed that sites are selling copy stands for animation but I thought scanning would be better. Now after looking up a few things people are complaing about dust and smudges with scanners so idk what to invest in. What’s your call Dan, is a copystand better or scanner?
